Killer Insight Psychic Eye Mysteries Book 4 Victoria Laurie Books
Let me preface this by saying that I am relatively new to this paranormal genre, though not to murder mysteries in general. I am, however, more accustomed to writers like Elizabeth George who write substantially more intelligent and more in-depth books. I do like this series for light reading and enjoy the author's sense of humor. So far, the stories have been entertaining (this is the fourth book of this series I've read), and I enjoy most of the characters. That said, I must agree with a couple of the other reviewers who find certain aspects of the books annoying. I'm not bothered by the "liar, liar, pants on fire" line because I understand that it's part of her psychic messaging, if you will, and I hadn't really noticed the "sweethot" bit (though I will likely be annoyed by it now), but I was definitely bothered by the reference to the MBA in Criminal Justice -- getting that one into print was a crime in itself. (FYI: a Master's degree in Criminal Justice would be an M.S. -- Master of Science, Social Sciences to be specific. An M.A. is a Master in Arts, and an MBA is a Master in Business Administration.) I was also very bothered by the supposed Amber Alert being put out for a grown woman; Amber Alerts are specifically and only for abducted children. They were, in fact, named after a little girl who was kidnapped and murdered. These kinds of errors are huge, in that they stop a reader in her tracks and also reflect badly on the author, editor and publisher. These kinds of very obvious errors should never, ever make it into print.
I am also terribly annoyed with the main character's at times insipid behavior. She comes across as an intelligent woman, yet she makes absolutely stupid decisions -- particularly in Book 3. She also makes dumb decisions in her obviously unhealthy relationship with Dutch, with whom she has more of a father-daughter type of relationship (and not even a healthy one at that, as he is waaaaay too controlling, even for a father!) I was so very happy when, in this book, she finally broke up with him and met a nice guy. But nope, like many a woman in a bad relationship, she can't see the forest for the trees. Dutch is hands-down the most uninteresting character in the series. Besides the fact that he treats Abby more like a child than a woman, he is whiney, bad-tempered and boring.
My advice to the author: try to make Abby a bit healthier. Give her a couple female friends, or at least bring back the gay guy from Book 2 -- there could have been a lot to work with with his character. Abby is very likeable, funny and intelligent; give her a little common sense, a healthy romantic relationship, and a female friend she can trust. I guess it's too late to ask for all that since five more books have been written beyond this one, so I'll just have to wait and see what happens. For now, I'm going to take a break from the Psychic Eye series because I have a feeling I'll get more annoyed if I read them one after another, especially if nothing mentioned above changes!
By the way, if you like this series, you will probably really like the Nikki Styx series by Terri Garey. Personally, I enjoyed that series much more than this one.

Killer Insight Psychic Eye Mysteries Book 4 Victoria Laurie Books Reviews
I love Abby and her world. Her sister Cat is great. The thing that is unusual is Abby is dead for part of this book and not with Dutch, her long term boyfriend due a misunderstanding. You meet her high school friends. The usual trying to figure out who is the bad guy and why is attached. I still think she is very lucky to have her Eggy dog, Dave her handyman and her sister. Her parents are a real hindrance so people who have this issue will be able to relate. The friendship dynamics and new love interest with Duffy are a new twist for us. Enjoy this one keeps you guessing. I love Victoria Laurie and this series. I read it before going to bed and laughed and was on the edge of my seat.
Abby Cooper is very upset when on Valentine's Day, she breaks up with her boyfriend, FBI agent Dutch Rivers. However, she has committed to be a bridesmaid at the wedding of her long time childhood friend Ellie, who lives in Colorado. After all, change is good for a broken heart, so Abby leaves her darling doggie, Eggie, with Dave, the handyman, and goes to Colorado. Soon she is embroiled in Ellie's wedding crisis, and when her psychic intuition tells her that one of the bridesmaid, Gina, is dead, Abby soon finds herself working with Ellie's sheriff brother Duffy to find out what happened to Gina. Abby's psychic "crew" soon lets her know that the chief suspect seems to be Ellie's fiancé Eddie, even though the signs and signals from the "crew" are confusing to Abbey. When Gina's body is found, and when 2 more bridesmaids turn up missing, Abby and Duffy realize that someone is committing murder to stop Ellie's wedding. Abby continues to help Duffy investigate the case, but she begins to have disturbing visions about her own death.
Abby is a strong heroine, brave and compassionate and secure in her psychic abilitites. Even though her relationship with both Dutch and her cold, uncaring parents hurt her, it doesn't stop her from trying to do the right thing and help Ellie. The other characters in "Killer Insight" are well rounded and believeable, especially Ellie's aunt Viv, a very old, very funny character who seems to think nothing of filling her large purse with forks, knives, soaps and food from restaurants. Abby and her sister Cat, further cement their sisterly relationship in this book and some funny sisterly dialog is cleverly handled. Author Victoria Laurie does a great job of explaining the processes of a psychic mind, from decribing Abby's preparation for a reading, to describing how Abby can tell if someone is dead by looking at their picture, or how Abby can pick up someone's energy by touching jewelry and other inanimate objects. The mystery moves along briskly and there are plenty of suspects and I had a hard time figuring out who the murder really was.
I have become a fan of Ms. Laurie's Abby Cooper, and hope to read many more of her psychic mystery adventure. All in all a very entertaining read.
I am an ultra sensitive empathic intuitive and have been doing readings for 29 years, along with having taught psychic/intuitive development and the tarot. One day, a few months ago, my husband brought home book 1 of this series and I completely fell it love with the series; characters, emotional connection and story line. One of the reasons I so enjoy these books, aside from the excitement of the story, I love the way Victoria describes her psychic sense and the physical and intuitive sensations that she feels in her body, when she is making a connection to her guides/crew. For me as a reader, reading paranormal (excellent writing) books like this, is it allows me to continue to remain open to my own guides and allows me to continue to connect to different ways, to describe sensations, in paying attention to our own intuition. So for all who love a good paranormal story, this is most definitely one to add to your collection.
